NOTES

Spy Valley Wines is situated on the sunny southern side of Marlborough's Wairau Valley, nestled on the terraces of the Omaka River are the vineyards of Johnson Estate. The brand name SPY VALLEY is derived from the presence of a satellite communications monitoring station (spy base) nearby, part of the Echelon Global Network.

Sauvignon Blanc is grown in our Marlborough vineyard on stony riverbed terraces, gently pressed and fermented in stainless steel tanks to give intense passionfruit and gooseberry fruit characters. The wine is fruit-driven in style, with complexity from lees ageing for several months in stainless steel tanks before bottling. This wine is a classic Marlborough Sauvignon Blanc with intense flavours and crisp acid in a dry style.

TASTING NOTES

Pale straw in colour leads to a bouquet lifted fruit aromas of passionfruit, and grapefruit with a background citrus character. Complex mineral and sweet pea notes add interest. The palate is generous and supple with abundant tropical fruits. Initial fruit sweetness is balanced by fine, taut acidity to leave a mouth-watering finish.

REVIEWS

The aromas are very intense lemon and kiwifruit; a hint of garden salad.  It's clean, fresh and vibrant in the mouth, with light to medium body and good, soft acidity that cleans the finish and helps the finish linger.  A benchmark Marlborough sauvignon. 92/100.  Food Caprese salad. 92 Points Huon Hooke, Top 50 Summer Wines, The Sydney Morning Herald, 24 November 2009.

It's ripe and invite on the nose displaying stonefruit, passionfruit and herbaceous characters. The palate is zesty and full-flavoured with a nicely textured mid palate, well integrated acidity and a lingering fruity finish. A gorgeous Sauvignon Blanc. Sam Kim 95 Points Wine Orbit Magazine, January 2010

Ripe, sweet fruit notes on the nose and on the palate. There’s juicy Meyer lemon and sweet herbs – really nice. Shows good concentration and very good balance between alcohol and fine grained acidity. Wine NZ, Autumn 2010
