NOTES
Centrally located in Australia's world class Coonawarra winegrowing district, Punters Corner is a boutique estate, and proudly, home to the 2000 Jimmy Watson Memorial Trophy.
Coonawarra, the aboriginal word for wild honeysuckle, is the name all associate with Australia's premier table-wine district, the dry red wines are amongst the best in the world. The Coonawarra viticultural area is based on the small area of terra rosa soil stretching north from Penola for fifteen kilometres and restricted to only two to three kilometres in width. Early assessments of Coonawarra area recognised the suitability of the natural elements of the district for vine growing.
TASTING NOTES
Saturated dark ruby purple in colour. Scents of smoky wood, the nose is fresh with blackcurrant, black olive and minty overtones, combined with subtle vanillin oak, mocha and chocolate notes. Further elements of soy sauce, dates, green olives and dark chocolate. The palate structure is lean and sinewy with complex flavours of mint, earth, spice and blackberry, considerable body, a chewy, fleshy texture, and abundant pepper as well as cassis. Attractive brambly currant and plum fruit, creamy vanilla oak aplenty in ravishing forward styling, a fine-grained Cabernet, evolved and sophisticated whilst rusticly influenced with traces of farmyard and earth. A dashing Coonawarra wine with flourish and a very long finish.
