Mount Langi Ghiran ’Billi Billi’ Pinot Grigio 2009
|
NOTES
The Mount Langi vineyards are nestled between two dramatically beautiful mountain ranges on the southern edge of the Great Dividing Range. A 540 metre cliff face towers over the vineyard at Mount Langi Ghiran. Cliff Edge is made from fully mature vines which sit at the very edge of cool climate Shiraz territory. To infuse marvellous complexity and enhance the ruddy fruit, Mount Langi puts the Cliff Edge into new and older French and American oaks for eighteen months. Mixing of oaks from different regions, countries and coopers by winemaker Trevor Mast gives complexity to the wine. A blend of sweeter American oak with the tighter French barrels translates into many interesting combinations.
TASTING NOTES
Shows a slight pink hue, which is a sign of quality for this variety. It has dry crisp slate (yes, slate flavour!) which gives backbone to the fruitiness of this wine. The grapes for this Pinot Gris were picked during a cool period to retain freshness and primary fruit flavours. Vinified anaerobicaly (i.e with no oxygen contact) and without the use of oak.
