Bellvale The Quercus Vineyard Pinot Noir 2007

NOTES

Established in 1998, Bellvale Wine is a family-owned business run by principal winemaker and viticulturalist, John Ellis. Situated in the lush Tarwin River valley of South Gippsland, the area is acknowledged as one of Australia’s best Pinot-Noir producing regions. The name, Bellvale, is derived from the Ellis family’s rich agricultural heritage, which may be traced back to a farm in Nieuw Amsterdam (the New York area), in the late 1600s. The Bellvale label features two majestic oak trees that grace the centre of its vineyard.

Bellvale’s Pinot Noir is produced from a single vineyard and dry grown. The high density planting and very low yields combine to produce wines of finesse and elegance with restrained, silky tannins and powerful expressions of flavour.

TASTING NOTES

Light to medium bright red in colour, with a trace of purple , the wine exhibits a nose of mixed  red currants and red cherries, with an aromatic herbal quality from grape stalks in the ferment. Subtle French oak adds spices.
The palate is fine and supple, with red fruits and sappy flavours. Fine tannins, with stalks providing more weight on the finish.

REVIEWS

A truly spicy wine, with whole bunch stemmy character lifting the varietal red fruits; very fresh and lively with razor-like acidity holding the palate together for a very long time. Screwcap 12.5° alc. 94 Points James Halliday Wine Companion 2009
