NOTES
Established in 1998, Bellvale Wine is a family-owned business run by principal winemaker and viticulturalist, John Ellis. Situated in the lush Tarwin River valley of South Gippsland, the area is acknowledged as one of Australia’s best Pinot-Noir producing regions. The name, Bellvale, is derived from the Ellis family’s rich agricultural heritage, which may be traced back to a farm in Nieuw Amsterdam (the New York area), in the late 1600s. The Bellvale label features two majestic oak trees that grace the centre of its vineyard.
Bellvale’s Pinot Noir is produced from a single vineyard and dry grown. The high density planting and very low yields combine to produce wines of finesse and elegance with restrained, silky tannins and powerful expressions of flavour.
TASTING NOTES
Pale straw in colour, the nose displays white peach and melon, tempered by spicy oak. The palate explodes with peach, backed by subtle grapefruit and melon, with integrated oak and tannin. Clean and fresh, with a strong, linear acid mid palate, the wine is tightly structured, and shows a well defined balance between fruit, acid and secondary characters.
REVIEWS
Obvious barrel ferment characters on the bouquet; a textured and complex palate with ripe nectarine fruit; belies its low alcohol. Screwcap 12.5° alc. 93 Points James Halliday Wine Companion 2009
