Red Wine > Cabernet Sauvignon & Blends > Yering Station Mr Frog Cabernet Shiraz Merlot 2005
|
NOTES
Yering Station lays claim to being Victoria's first vineyard, proudly boasting some of the Yarra Valley's finest vines. Quite the specialists at Pinot Noir, Mr Frog represents another triumph. While positioned in the cheap and cheerful category, these wines are splendid, light bodied and great for everyday drinking with ample fruit, good structure, and savouriness on the finish with very minimal oak integration.
A finely pitched Cuvée crafted from batches of the best Yarra Valley Cabernet Sauvignon and Shiraz grapes with a splash of Merlot available to the Yering Station winemaking team. Several different fermentation methods are used to gain complexity, including the laborious task of hand-plunging in open fermentation tanks followed by eleven months maturation under finely grained French oak barrels.
TASTING NOTES
Colour is a dark red with tinges of Phantom purple. Very nice blackcurrant fruit nose with tag along partners of dark cherry and blackberry characters with hints of leather and nutmeg spice, excellent layers of cedary oak aromas. Very varietal with lots of currant, mint, pepper and plums, cherries and cassis fruit aromas and flavours. The blackcurrant characters follow through in abundance onto the rich Victorian Cabernet Shiraz palate, dark berry fruit with great intensity and weight, complemented by soft, fine grain tannins.
