NOTES
Deviation Road is a small family owned and operated winery in the Adelaide Hills, South Australia. Our vineyard is situated on Deviation Road, the namesake of our winery, in the high slopes of the Lenswood district.
The 1920's topographical map which features on the label shows the area around our vineyard. High slopes, multiple aspects and the specific soil type present here all combine with the Hills' cool climate to create the unique Deviation Road terroir. You can taste it's elegance in our Sauvignon Blanc, Pinot Gris, Chardonnay and Pinot Noir.
The Adelaide Hills is a truly remarkable region for producing not only outstanding aromatic white wines, but similarly outstanding and elegant Pinot Noir and Shiraz. The key to producing these refined reds is by maintaining low yields, careful site selection and meticulous wine making. The Shiraz grapes used are from carefully selected sites from other vineyards in the hills. The winemaker works closely with these growers to produce low yielding, un-irrigated fruit of full flavour yet retaining signature spice and fine structure.
TASTING NOTES
Aromatic pear and apple crumble, quince, almonds and some fresh yeasty aromatics. The palate exhibits juicy bright lemony notes and white florals, with attractive biscuity flavours and spicy ginger. Fresh uplifted acidity and partial barrel ferment adds further complexity to this excellent Pinot Gris.
REVIEWS
"..this version from the Adelaide Hills is a whole lot better than most. It combines ripe fruit with a whisper of old barrel influence into a harmonious drop of excellent balance and sustained flavour. Suggestions of pear, almond and a whiff of patisserie-like spice give the nose interest, and it tastes smooth and rich with good mouthfeel and a touch of underlying firmness." Wine of the week, Ralph Kyte-Powell, The Age Epicure February 10, 2009
Well above average intensity and length. And excellent example of cool climate Adelaide Hills Pinot Gris. James Halliday
