Orange is classified as the highest wine region in Australia, with vineyards planted up to 1100 metres. The altitude and vineyard aspect combine to provide the vines cool conditions and intense sunlight; this allows Orange to produce a level of elegance and consistency exemplified in the Climbing Wines.
TASTING NOTES
Pinot gris has huge potential in Orange, where the high elevation and resultant cool climate gives the fruit power and zest that perfectly suits the variety. Winemaker Debbie Lauritz says of the wine “this wine shows the subtle salmon colours that are characteristic of the variety, especially when made in a more Alsatian style. It has great fruit depth and a full body, with honey notes and bright fruit that nicely balances the natural acidity of the variety. It is a style to drink now.
It is a perfect accompaniment for dishes such as seafood, sushi, or wild mushroom risotto.
