Five Geese Shiraz 2006

NOTES

Sue Trott is one of Australia’s few long established women vignerons. After many years of growing grapes for some of Australia’s best known wineries, she decided it was time to select some of her best parcels of fruit in Blewitt Springs for her own label. In July 1999, she established Hillgrove Wines Pty Ltd.  Hillgrove is committed to the production of premium McLaren Vale wines. five geese has been listed as one of the best wineries of the McLaren Vale region by James Halliday in his latest Australian Wine Companion 2009, and has received a full five star rating.

TASTING NOTES

2006 was an excellent vintage. A dry winter was followed by good spring rains, enabling healthy vine growth with canopies ideal for fruit set. Early summer was mild with perfect grape ripening conditions. Warmer conditions returned in late February/early March, producing Shiraz with excellent colour, natural acidity and ripe flavours.

The 2006 five geese Shiraz has a soft and flavoursome palate with that distinctive spicy, near-aniseed, brambly Blewitt Springs character giving a nice, long lingering finish. This wine is a very good example of the Blewitt Springs sub-region, showing a more elegant, savoury expression of Shiraz than is typical of McLaren Vale Shiraz.
