Five Geese Grenache Shiraz 2006 (McLaren Vale, SA)
|
NOTES
Sue Trott is one of Australia’s few long established women vignerons. After many years of growing grapes for some of Australia’s best known wineries, she decided it was time to select some of her best parcels of fruit in Blewitt Springs for her own label. In July 1999, she established Hillgrove Wines Pty Ltd. Hillgrove is committed to the production of premium McLaren Vale wines. five geese has been listed as one of the best wineries of the McLaren Vale region by James Halliday in his latest Australian Wine Companion 2009, and has received a full five star rating.
TASTING NOTES
2006 was an excellent vintage. A dry winter was followed by good spring rains, enabling healthy vine growth with canopies ideal for fruit set. Early summer was mild with perfect grape ripening conditions. Warmer conditions returned in late February/early March, producing Shiraz with excellent colour, natural acidity and ripe flavours.
A very attractive Cherry-red colour. Lifted and fresh - Raspberry perfume - Very obviously Grenache. This wine highlights the Grenache characteristics. The 2006 five geese Grenache Shiraz has a flavoursome palate with soft, rich berry flavours. The Grenache characters of this wine are highlighted, with the 20% Shiraz adding to the complexity and playing a complementary role. We are extemely pleased with this classic expression of Grenache.
