Chapel Hill The Vicar Cabernet Merlot Shiraz 2007
|
NOTES
Chapel Hill is based around an historic stone church, so it is appropriate that the flagship red wine for the company be named The Vicar. More wine Vicar? The Vicar has only attended five times in the history of Chapel Hill. His first visitation was in 1993, and he rose again in 1994, 1996, 1998 and 2001. He is a full bodied rich fellow, ordained with the glorious richness of Shiraz and the Reverend heavenly flavours of Cabernet Sauvignon. His complexity and richness, almost of biblical proportions combine with superfine tannins eternal in length (crafted to mature in 12-15 years). He has a devoted following and doesn't stay around for long.
TASTING NOTES
A vibrant, deep crimson. The nose shows black fruits, fleshy berries without oak dominance. Layers of opulent blackberry mocha and liquorice flavours are seamlessly interlinked by sublime savoury textures. A classic Australian red of astoundingly harmonious complexity and richness, almost of biblical proportions. The synergistic balance of heightened varietal expression, palate weight, tannin and acidity mean that the Vicar will provide excellent enjoyment, and can be expected to develop marvellous complexity.
REVIEWS
Has not dissimilar texture and weight to the standard shiraz, but much greater intensity to the cascade of black fruits which are beautifully tempered by savoury tannins to provide flavour and structural balance. Screwcap.
