In the Crowded world of wine, New Zealand is paradise for Pinot Gris vines. Crowded House is all about taking a fresh new look at classic wine styles. New Zealand’s unique and diverse wine regions offer constant challenge in both the viticultural and winemaking aspects of wine production, which provides Ant Moore the opportunity to be creative. As such there is urgency to his winemaking. One only gets so many chances and the seasons offer unique potential to make a truly great Pinot Gris. Fruit was collated from the Nelson River's most superlative Pinot Gris vineyards; pressed and inoculated, put through a temperature controlled cool fermentation in tank, and treated to a minimal fining.
Ant Moore is not afraid to do things differently; Crowded House is all about taking a fresh new look at classic New Zealand wines. Ant Moore's vineyards yield wines with good length and a smorgasbord of fruit characters. The vines are picked batch by batch, at separate times. Early picking delivers fruit with higher acidity and wonderful citrus characters. Voluptuous, richly developed expressions are typical of later picked, riper fruit. Ant Moore is well rehearsed at taking full advantage of the unique opportunities presented each season. Fruit parcels are vinified individually, inoculated with select wild ferments, assembled without any oak treatment whatsoever; into a vibrant and fresh, fruit forward styling.
TASTING NOTES
Clear and bright with a pale apricot hue. Fresh clean nose of pear and honeysuckle. Aromas of lychee and orange, pear and musk, almond and cashew, orange sherbet and wet banana. Fresh varietal aromas with a bit of class, there are complex and discernible dried fruit elements, distinctive dried banana and apricot, grapefruit peel and oranges. A gripping palate reflecting the quality of fruit in the aromatics, supple and balanced with melon and pear, a clean dry finish.
