NOTES
Plantagenet Wines was the first winery in the Great Southern wine growing region of Western Australia. From small beginnings Plantagenet Wines is now one of the most well respected Western Australian wineries consistently producing quality wines for nearly 40 years. Fruit for many of the wines is sourced from the oldest vineyards in the region. The winery is located in the heart of Mt Barker Township which is 350kms south of the Western Australian capital of Perth.
The vineyards are located to the south and west of the township. The climate is considered cool to moderate with rainfall around 700m annually.
TASTING NOTES
Fruit sourced mostly from our 36 year old Wyjup and 38 year old Bouvary vineyards with smaller amounts form the 30 year old Charleston vineyard and introducing a portion from our promising young Rocky Horror vineyard, all growing on gravel loams from around the Mt Barker area in the Great Southern region of Western Australia.
Deep dense colour of dark plum with aroma of a classic Shiraz which opens with blueberry and mulberry, with a dollop of vanilla but with wafts of pepper, nutmeg cloaked with cedar lurking in the background. The palate is strongly varietal, with a structure built for the long haul, with a sumptuous mid palate of succulent plums and blueberries and lingering, mouth filling spice flavours.
REVIEWS
A ripe and savoury bouquet with redcurrant and blackberry, framed by mineral complexity and a little roasted meat; the palate is quite chewy in texture, but has a litheness to the fruit that draws out the very long, and quite juicy conclusion. Screwcap.14.5% alc.
