NOTES
Plantagenet Wines was the first winery in the Great Southern wine growing region of Western Australia. From small beginnings Plantagenet Wines is now one of the most well respected Western Australian wineries consistently producing quality wines for nearly 40 years. Fruit for many of the wines is sourced from the oldest vineyards in the region. The winery is located in the heart of Mt Barker Township which is 350kms south of the Western Australian capital of Perth.
The vineyards are located to the south and west of the township. The climate is considered cool to moderate with rainfall around 700m annually.
TASTING NOTES
Fruit sourced almost entirely from our 37 year old Wyjup and 39 year old Bouverie vineyards, (78%) growing on ancient gravel loams in the Mt Barker area in the Great Southern region of Western Australia. Our more recently planted Rocky Horror vineyard, planted on even more gravelly soils contributed 16% towards the Cabernet blend.
Deep dense colour of dark plum; a tightly focused wine, with savoury, mineral, plum and blackberry notes, classy oak handling imparts a sweet vanilla and pencil notes. The palate displays a highly refined polished wine with beautifully integrated powder coat tannins and a sumptuous mid palate of succulent currants and blackberries flavours that carry the length of the palate, a bright, clean finish. Very tasty indeed.
REVIEWS
Strong crimson-purple; classic Great Southern cabernet; while it has fully ripe and lush blackcurrant fruit, there is also a savoury/spicy cool climate twist to the finish; has good length and balance. Screwcap.14.5% alc.
