White Wine > Pinot Gris/Pinot Grigio > Wood Park Pinot Gris 2008 (Whitlands, VIC)
|
NOTES
With an environmental science background John Stokes planted his Wood Park vineyard amongst regenerating natural bush land in the foothills of the Victorian Alps in 1989. At that time, wines in the King Valley were being made by the first wave of winemakers predominantly, Brown Brothers. Through the 1980s, a second wave of winemakers was emerging.
The Whitlands Plateau at 800 metres above sea level is one of the highest vineyard sites in Australia and offers a long cool growing season in a regular year. This location has to be one of the most scenic in the country and anyone remotely interested in vineyards should visit this area. The vineyard at which the Pinot Gris is grown consists of deep volcanic soil and high rainfall.
TASTING NOTES
Pale Straw in colour, the wine leads into a nose showcasing pear, musk and spice. The palate is light and fresh with a touch of pineapple without being cloying or oily. Great length and a crisp finish.
