Wood Park Pinot Noir 2006 (Whitlands, VIC)

NOTES

With an environmental science background John Stokes planted his Wood Park vineyard amongst regenerating natural bush land in the foothills of the Victorian Alps in 1989. At that time, wines in the King Valley were being made by the first wave of winemakers predominantly, Brown Brothers. Through the 1980s, a second wave of winemakers was emerging.

This cool climate vineyard is at 800m above sea level and has a North East aspect. This site has a great diurnal swing which is so important to the acid structure in great Pinot Noir. The vines are planted in deep volcanic soil and the vineyard has high rainfall and regular snowfalls during the winter months. After fastidious investigation of the vineyard site, Pinot Noir clones MV6, 114 and 115 have excelled on this site.

TASTING NOTES

Light crimson red in colour with a nose of black cherries, strawberries, cranberry and floral notes. The palate is rich, savoury and distinctive with a fleshy texture featuring black cherry, plum, forest floor and a touch of cinnamon. This wine has great persistence and length with a taut structure.
