NOTES
Howard Park Wines has a very simple mantra when it comes to the production of its wines - premium wine can only come from excellent fruit. Since its foundation Howard Park has held the belief that each variety is best suited to particular climates and soil types within the two premium wine regions of Margaret River and the Great Southern. Over the past 20 years, Howard Park has exerted considerable effort into defining and classifying the vineyards in these two regions by variety to ensure the quality levels demanded are continually upheld and improved. We believe this approach ensures that each bottle of Howard Park wine is the finest expression from these two regions and continues to over deliver on your expectations.
TASTING NOTES
The 2007 Howard Park Scotsdale Shiraz is a dense purple wine with a black heart yet brilliant clarity. It displays lifted intense blackberry and dark plum fruit aromas and spices: traces of cinnamon, clove and anise evolve as the wine opens up. The primary fruits are complemented by dark chocolate and mocha complexity which will develop with further cellaring. The palate of the 2007 Scotsdale Shiraz is still focused and tight, a youthful expression of Frankland Shiraz displaying great concentration but also elegance. Fleshy sweet black fruits with underlying Dutch licorice and five spice fill the mid-palate. The classy tannins are layered, fine and powdery adding great persistence to the finish.
OTHER REVIEWS
Blackberry and mocha bouquet with a touch of tar; the palate is quite bright with focused acidity, dark fruits and a slight savoury twist to the finish. To 2014. 90 Points, James Halliday, 2010 Australian Wine Companion
Pleasant, light nose, lots of plum character on the palate and a smooth journey. Certainly a good wine...
89 Points Tony Keys, The KROW (Key Review of Wines) - 01-08-2009
All it needs is a couple of years' rest in the bottle. It's an excellent example of the spicy, blackberried style of shiraz that its region can do so well. It also tastes a bit exotic, with aniseed, chocolate and blood plums soaked in a mix of Asian spices. ...the drive of fruit behind it is lovely ...This will mature beautifully. Drink 2010 - 2020.
94 Points Campbell Mattinson, The Wine Front - 08-04-2009
Howard Park has been producing this outstanding, plush, single-vineyard shiraz since 2000. It's seamless, succulent, rich, ripe and ultra-concentrated, yet fine and elegant. And don't forget its Leston cabernet which is of similar quality. Peter Forrestal, The Sunday Times Magazine - 15-03-2009
