Chateau Villa Bel-Air 2005 (Graves)

NOTES

Chateau Villa Bel-Air is located in Saint-Morillon in the heart of the “Graves” appellation. In the 18th century, Louis Dufaure, Marquis de Lajarte, a councillor in the Bordeaux Parliament, built a beautiful classical mansion on the site of the Bel-Air wine property. Today, the interior design of the property is classified a Historical Monument.

After a long dormant period, the property was bought in 1988 by Jean-Michel Cazes (from Chateau Lynch Bages)and his family. From this date they completely restructured the vineyards and the technical installations. Advanced techniques are implemented in the renewed vines, but the spirit in which they are tended perpetuate ancestral traditions.

TASTING NOTES

True to its origins in Graves the wine is modern in style, bursting with gorgeous fruit and underpinned by ripe tannins. It shows real complexity on the nose. Seductive blackcurrant fruit with fruit cake and spice flavours too. On the palate, the tannins are firm but not tight and the lush, rounded fruit that help to make it expressive enough to enjoy now. The acidity and body are in balance and a streak of Graves minerality finish off the long length admirably. This is an approachable style of wine from a fabulous vintage- at a very reasonable price, considering the quality on show here!
