NOTES
The Hunter Valley produces some of the most regionally unique styles of wine in the world. Every variety grown has its own unique set of characters and structure that are affected significantly by the climate they enjoy, the soil they are produced from and the winemaking style I prefer. The quality of Margan is controlled from the vineyard right through to the consumer.
All of the wines are produced from Margan’s old vine, low yielding vineyards. The volcanic soils of the Fordwich Sill that nourish our vines produce excellent quality grapes that achieve optimal ripeness of flavour, colour and tannin. The wines have great texture, structure and richness which are a true expression of the vineyard they come from. Margan produce a richer, softer Hunter style of wine.
TASTING NOTES
Pale gold green in colour. The nose has lifted tropical lychee and guava characters with hints of lime and green apple. The palate is full and balanced with ripe fruit characters, finishing with tangy fresh acid and lingering spice. This wine has been made to be consumed young and fresh, but with age, the wonderful tangy characters of the fruit will give way to more complex flavours. Will maintain its freshness under stelvin for a number of years. An excellent accompaniment to most Asian style or spicy foods.
REVIEWS
A generous smoky style, with an exuberant personality; dried straw comes through on the palate, with a zesty citrus finish. Screwcap.13.5% alc. Rating 88 James Halliday Australian Wine Companion 2010
Bright, greenish straw. Seductive bouquet of melon, kiwi and baking spices. Then less complex on the palate, displaying plump honeydew and tropical fruit flavors and gentle mineral grip. Easygoing and drinking nicely now. Josh Raynolds, International Wine Cellar October 2008
