Brown Brothers ’Patricia’ Cabernet Sauvignon 2004

NOTES

Brown Brothers in Milawa, north-eastern Victoria, is one of the icons of winemaking and wine tourism in Australia. Operated in the King Valley by a pioneering winemaking family, they are always exploring new varieties.

Brown Brothers believe that wines are as different as the ‘people who drink them’ which is why they have developed a comprehensive range of wine styles and blends. With vineyards located in a diverse range of climatic regions and a 'kindergarten' winery specifically designed for innovation, Brown Brothers draws from a patchwork of vineyards to make a number of wines – many such as the Limited Release wines which you will only find at cellar door and a handful of fine wine merchants.

TASTING NOTES

The Patricia range of wines is the culmination of Brown Brothers' commitment to viticultural and winemaking excellence. The Patricia name is a dedication for Patricia Brown's hard work and the love she has given her family. Careful vineyard site selection and the utmost care in winemaking approach has maximised flavour and retained the elegance of these wines, they are sure to impress.

The Patricia Cabernet Sauvignon is a rich crimson colour with complex aromas of red berries, mint and blackcurrant, while the French oak influence also offers a gentle ‘cedar lift’. The palate is rich and concentrated with flavours of sweet fruit and hints of nutmeg. It has good length of flavour and is well structured with ripe flavours and a seamless elegant finish.

REVIEWS

Even with five years' age, the fruit and tannins are still contesting primacy; happily, the contest is sufficiently even for it not to matter overmuch; good varietal black fruits have a nice burnish of cedary oak and tannins. Cork. 13.5% alc. Rating 92 Drink 2020, James Halliday, Australian Wine Companion 2010

Wow! Absolutely varietal. This is cabernet on a stick. Nose of dried tobacco leaf, crushed leaves and cassis. Super cool and fine. The tannins are talcy and superbly structured to carry the fruit. The palate is long and persistent. This is a masterclass on the use of (French) oak. You know it's there but it's beautifully integrated. Cellar for 8/10 years.
