NOTES
Brown Brothers in Milawa, north-eastern Victoria, is one of the icons of winemaking and wine tourism in Australia. Operated in the King Valley by a pioneering winemaking family, they are always exploring new varieties.
Brown Brothers believe that wines are as different as the ‘people who drink them’ which is why they have developed a comprehensive range of wine styles and blends. With vineyards located in a diverse range of climatic regions and a 'kindergarten' winery specifically designed for innovation, Brown Brothers draws from a patchwork of vineyards to make a number of wines – many such as the Limited Release wines which you will only find at cellar door and a handful of fine wine merchants.
TASTING NOTES
Cellar Door wines provide you with the opportunity to explore new wine varieties and styles. The range includes limited releases of new varietals, experimental batches and optimum aged wines of which you will some at a handful of fine wine retailers.
The grapes for this wine were grown in Brown Brothers’ Banksdale vineyard in the upper reaches of the King Valley. The Prosecco has a pale gold colour with subtle green hues and a delicate nose displaying citrus, apple and pear characters. These characters follow through to the palate which is fresh and crisp with tight natural acidity from the cool climate fruit. Prosecco is made to drink young while at its light and delicate best.
Prosecco is the name of an appellation in north east Italy as well as being the name of a variety. Sparkling Prosecco is made using the Charmat method of sparkling production which is in a pressurised tank to retain the bubbles. The grapes are generally harvested early to get high levels of natural acidity and fresh crisp flavours.
REVIEWS
Clean and focused pear bouquet; the palate shows a touch of green apple; clean, fresh and crisp, with well-handled dosage, and cleansing chalky acidity. Cork. 12% alc. Rating 90, James Halliday, Australian Wine Companion 2010
This is Brown Brothers' first foray into Prosecco (what took them so long?) and it's excellent: fragrant aromatics and good varietal expression, pear-apple notes, fizzy with a dry finish and a touch of pronounced acid. Jane Faulkner, Full Bottle, Saturday 25th April 2009.
