Forest Hill Vineyard Cabernet Sauvignon 2008

NOTES

Forest Hill is Western Australia’s oldest cool-climate vineyard. Forest Hill is a proud family-owned boutique winery creating exciting wines of the highest quality. This family-owned business is one of the oldest ‘new’ winemaking operations in WA, and was the site for the first grape plantings in Great Southern in 1965. The Forest Hill brand became well known, aided by the fact that a 1975 Riesling made by Sandalford from Forest Hill grapes won nine trophies. Each is made to be a true reflection of the premium Western Australian grape-growing region of Mt Barker in the State’s Great Southern expressing unique regional and varietal characters combined with finesse, elegance and definition.

TASTING NOTES

Deep red in colour with a purple hue. Lifted aromas of dark berries with hints of plum and dark chocolate notes. Earthy undertones and savoury notes add complexity on the nose and subtle spices develop in the glass. Medium bodied with a firm rich mouth feel. Flavours of black berry, tobacco leaf and subtle earthy and herbaceous hints carry through onto the palate. Slightly dusty, chewy tannins are already well integrated with good mid-palate richness and definition.

REVIEWS

You would be hard pressed to find too many better selections of Cabernets in this price bracket than the ones making the final cut in this tasting. A super group. This is one of the best Cabernets from Forest Hill. Blackcurrant and light dusty oak with fine-grained tannins. Excellent Cabernet structure with the angular thread weaving through the tight core of fruit before revealing more luxurious qualities on the finish. Screwcap. Ray Jordan, The Great Red Tasting $25-$40, The West Australian

A nigh-on perfect evocation of medium-bodied cabernet, the aroma and flavours wonderfully pure, with pinpointed accuracy to the cassis and blackcurrant fruit, the tannins exact, the oak likewise. Screwcap. 13.5%alc. Rating 97 Drink 2012, James Halliday, Australian Wine Companion 2010 (2007 Vintage)

***Listed in the ‘Best of the Best Variety’***
