NOTES
Located in Pays d'Auge, a part of Normandie well known for the quality of its agricultural products, the Dupont Family runs since 4 generations a 50 hectares Domain, of which 30 hectares of apple ciders orchards. The soils of the Domain, mainly marls and marly chalks, produce fruits with low yields that are rich and complex, that allows to produce a large range of traditional and innovative gastronomical products.
TASTING NOTES
The blend consists 80% of bitter-sweet apples (Mainly Saint-Martin, Douce Moën, Bedan, Rouge Duret) 20% acidic apples (Petit Jaune). Pours a super-nice clear golden. Fizzy thin head disappears as I pour it. Two small streams of bubbles surge upwards. Aroma has lots of green apple, oak and dryness. Highish carbonation, fine frothy mouthfeel. Flavour is relatively dry, some sweet green apples and a slightly more tart note of red apples. Fresh and nice.
SERVING SUGGESTIONS
The Cidre Organique Etienne Dupont can be served as an aperitif, but also during the meal as an accompaniment with poultry or fish cooked with cream. It can also be served as an accompaniment to cheese (made with cow milk: Camembert, Pont-l'Evêque, Livarot), apple desserts. Cider is also an excellent and a very traditional drink with salty and sweet pancakes.
