NOTES
Today, Matusalem Rum is produced in the Dominican Republic, whose soils and climate create the highest quality sugar cane which is used in the family’s secret formula, under the watchful eyes of our master blenders. These master blenders are all descendants of the founders, and are faithfully committed to maintaining our centuries old technique of Solera blending. In the Solera blending process, various mature aged Caribbean rums are carefully blended with more exuberant rums to create exceptionally smooth, unique blends.
TASTING NOTES
Golden brown in colour; Smooth with a sweet buttery caramel aroma on the nose. Not as much oak as other aged rums, but the aroma is stronger than some of the other rums. The palate starts with some sweetness and then opens up to reveal flavours of molasses and butterscotch with some subtle cinnamon and vanilla spices. Slight alcohol and rum heat on the finish with a long tongue tingling spiciness.
REVIEWS
Brilliant copper hue. A soft nose of toffee and butter. A satiny entry leads to a round, fruity-yet-dry, medium-bodied palate with praline and brown spice notes. Finishes with smooth spicy oak flavors. A finely balanced, very silky, aged rum. 40% Alc./Vol. International Review of Spirits Award: Gold Medal RATED: 95 points (Exceptional) - tasting notes sourced from www.tastings.com
Other reviews... Palate entry is slightly maple-like and more bittersweet than flat-out sweet; the midpalate shows rich molasses and sugar maple tastes. Aftertaste is long, slightly lead pencil-like, bittersweet and elegant. Rating: 90-95 - tasting note sourced from www.wineenthusiast.com
