NOTES
Don Facundo Bacardi Masso emigrated to Cuba from Spain in 1830. Arriving as a wine merchant he set up as a grocer in the 1840s and was experimenting with distillation by 1852 trying to improve the quality of the local rum by trying various technical experiments in distillation and ageing. As a result of these experiments Facundo decided to use charcoal filtration to remove the rum’s impurities, and he also employed oak-ageing to smooth the raw edges of the spirit and produce a mellow clear white rum.
There is no doubting Don Facundo’s drive and business acumen. He bought a distillery and in 1862, with his brother Jose, he established Bacardi & Co. in order to properly distribute and market his product. In 1872 he turned the management of his business over to two of his sons, Emilio and Facundo Bacardi Moreau.
TASTING NOTES
A burnt brown colour; Sweet smells, caramel, cane, raisins and a very subtle scent of vanilla create a wonderfully balanced aroma. The same sweet flavours follow and you'll be thinking this is almost too good to put in a cocktail but you'd be wrong! This Rum will enhance your cocktails no end. Neat or otherwise this is a classic!
REVIEWS
Bright amber color. Aromas of baked bananas, fig, vanilla bean ice cream, and oily nuts follow through on a round, supple entry to a dry-yet-fruity medium body with tobacco leaf, cedar, cola nut, and varnished wood notes. Finishes with a lively, toasty praline, spice and mineral fade. Well made and satisfying. RATED: 91 points (Exceptional) - tasting notes sourced from www.tastings.com
Other reviews... Offers aromas of molasses and cocoa bean; additional aeration brings out bittersweet vanilla bean. Palate entry is sweet, viscous and intensely bean-like; by midpalate, the flavors also include molasses and raw sugar. Finish is long, sugary-sweet and bean-like.
