Cape Mentelle is a founding winery of the Margaret River, established in 1970. One of the most remote wine regions of the world located in the south-west corner of, its natural beauty with spectacular coastlines captivates everyone that visits the region. Here the maritime influence of the Indian Ocean ensures even temperatures, providing consistently excellent vintage conditions.
TASTING NOTES
Cape Mentelle’s Shiraz takes inspiration from the techniques and wines of the Northern Rhone Valley. The fruit is destemmed only, cold soaked and traditionally fermented, maturation in both large oak vats and small barriques is aimed at retaining the refined fruit and floral characters of the variety along with the more savoury, spicy elements derived from the vineyard.
Deep red with purple hues; intense briary blackberry and plums, off set with star anise and cracked black peppercorns. The rich inky palate displays mulberries and blackberries. The bright, dense fruit is complemented with savoury spicy oak finishing with structural chalky tannins and a long fi nish. Serve with pan seared venison loin with pomme frite, wild mushroom and Armagnac sauce.
