Helm Wines Half Dry Riesling 2008
|
NOTES
Helm Wines (established in 1973) is one of the first commercial wineries established in the cool climate Canberra District Wine Region. Riesling has been a passion of Ken Helm’s for 33 years. The last 6 years has seen the winery win 13 trophies, 17 gold, 19 silver and 30 bronze awards at wine competitions - including Germany. In 2000 Ken instigated the Hyatt National Riesling Challenge in Canberra; it is now the largest of its kind in the Southern Hemisphere.
TASTING NOTES
This wine demonstrates the diversity of the Riesling grape which can produce premium wines across the sugar spectrum. This style was developed by Ken and Stephanie who noticed that there were many consumers who like a hint of sweetness in their wines. It is a beautiful wine that exists in the middle of the sugar spectrum, being neither too dry nor too sweet.
Aromatic fresh nose typical of Riesling. Palate is soft, spicy and slightly sweet, but finishing dry, to give balance. Rich flavours in harmony with acid, sweetness and fruit, makes for an attractive wine. It is a wonderful wine to enjoy with a wide range of foods particularly spicy food, where the sweetness cuts the heat.
