Helm Wines Classic Dry Riesling 2009
|
NOTES
Helm Wines (established in 1973) is one of the first commercial wineries established in the cool climate Canberra District Wine Region. Riesling has been a passion of Ken Helm’s for 33 years. The last 6 years has seen the winery win 13 trophies, 17 gold, 19 silver and 30 bronze awards at wine competitions - including Germany. In 2000 Ken instigated the Hyatt National Riesling Challenge in Canberra; it is now the largest of its kind in the Southern Hemisphere.
TASTING NOTES
Another great Riesling, from a great year in the Canberra District. Three vineyards were harvested at different stages of ripeness, and as with the 2008 Classic Dry Riesling, the wine from each of these vineyards was processed in individual tanks. Blending of the individual batches is defined by tasting trials against previous vintages wines to ensure consistency of the Classic Dry style from year to year. 33 years of trophies, gold medals and reviews testify to the consistent quality of Helm Riesling Classic Dry 2009. The wine has a floral, clean, fresh bouquet and a crisp citric fruit flavoured palate with complexity and good length.
REVIEWS
A clean but not particularly expressive bouquet leads into a palate with considerable depth and intensity given its moderately low alcohol, with apple, lime and lemon flavours; a long and penetrating finish. Screwcap.11.7% alc. Rating 93 James Halliday, Australian Wine Companion 2010
