NOTES
Whilst living and winemaking in the Yarra Valley, Adam Markes discovered the joys of breeding and showing chickens. This passion led him to visit France in 1996 to witness first hand their traditional methods of breeding chickens and now dedicates his wines, ciders and produce to the famous chickens of France and what they represent artisan production using traditional, age old methods. Visit the property and we can show you our white leghorn chickens, which are very similar to the chickens bred in the Bresse region of France.
TASTING NOTES
The fruit for this Heathcote & Bendigo Shiraz was selected from a vineyard situated in the heart of the Heathcote appellation and from Marong, a region south of the township of Bendigo. Along with fruit from our own vineyard situated at Harcourt.
An intense and vibrant pungent crimson, almost inky blue colour; the wine offers a complex array of fruit aromas of black fruit, spice, cloves and plum. The oak aromas are of char and vanillin spice. The wine is tightly packed full of black fruit, spice, cloves, and plum. The oak characters are beautifully integrated into the wine, giving the wine structure and adding power, balance and a savoury richness.
REVIEWS
Ripe blackberry, plum and black cherry fruit track through the bouquet and the soft, welcoming medium-bodied palate, the tannins fine and ripe, the oak restrained. Screwcap.13.5% alc. Rating 93 James Halliday, Australian Wine Companion 2009 (2007 vintage)
