White Wine > Pinot Gris/Pinot Grigio > Heartland Pinot Grigio 2009
|
NOTES
Heartland Wines was created by a small group of leading South Australian wine identities who are all good friends and share a passion for making great wine. All Heartland wines are made with fruit from mature vineyards in the Limestone Coast and Langhorne Creek in South Australia. There are three ranges under the Heartland Wines label; Heartland, Stickleback, and the flagship Directors' Cut Shiraz.
The Coast & Creek range of wines perfectly reflect Ben Glaetzer’s determination to make wines that display pure varietal and regional characters. These wines are made from fruit sourced from the largest, most mature vineyards owned by Heartland wines. The Limestone Coast shares many qualities with its famous neighbour, Coonawarra with fruit ripening slowly developing full fruit flavours to create vibrant, mouth filling wines of finesse and elegance; and Langhorne Creek – situated east of Adelaide, on the Fleurieu Peninsula . It is one of South Australia’s oldest wine regions and as a result of the cool dry nights and warm days produces wines with richness and purity with fine tannins and opulent mouth feel.
TASTING NOTES
Langhorne Creek 93%, Limestone Coast 7%; a blend of 92% Pinot Grigio and 8% Viognier. Pale lemon green in colour, the 09 Pinot Grigio displays an attractive nose with hints of melon, pear and apple blossom. The palate is fresh and lively with a touch of spice and citrus. The tannin of Pinot Grigio adds firmness and structure to the palate. A hint of Viognier contributes to the luscious mouthfeel. Sumptuous fruit flavours are balanced by a crisp, dry, flinty finish making it the perfect accompaniment to richly flavoured foods. Dry, medium-bodied and unoaked.
