NOTES
Heartland Wines was created by a small group of leading South Australian wine identities who are all good friends and share a passion for making great wine. All Heartland wines are made with fruit from mature vineyards in the Limestone Coast and Langhorne Creek in South Australia. There are three ranges under the Heartland Wines label; Heartland, Stickleback, and the flagship Directors' Cut Shiraz.
The Coast & Creek range of wines perfectly reflect Ben Glaetzer’s determination to make wines that display pure varietal and regional characters. These wines are made from fruit sourced from the largest, most mature vineyards owned by Heartland wines. The Limestone Coast shares many qualities with its famous neighbour, Coonawarra with fruit ripening slowly developing full fruit flavours to create vibrant, mouth filling wines of finesse and elegance; and Langhorne Creek – situated east of Adelaide, on the Fleurieu Peninsula . It is one of South Australia’s oldest wine regions and as a result of the cool dry nights and warm days produces wines with richness and purity with fine tannins and opulent mouth feel.
TASTING NOTES
Langhorne Creek 73%, Limestone Coast 27%; a blend of 50% Dolcetto and 50% Lagrein. Dolcetto & Lagrein is a blend of two indigenous northern Italian varieties that are ideally suited to South Australian climate - particularly Langhorne Creek. A food orientated wine, with brightness and lift from the Dolcetto, and good acid and tannin from Lagrein.
Intense dark purple in colour at release; Blackberries and wild herbs with smoked meats and spice on the nose. In the mouth, earthy flavours from the Lagrein mingle with sweet, fresh red cherry and spice of the Dolcetto. The wine has a concentrated and supple palate yet retains a pleasant savoury character and bright acidity, making it perfect for enjoying with food - especially tomato based Italian dishes.
