Heartland Director’s Cut Shiraz 2009

NOTES

Heartland Wines was created by a small group of leading South Australian wine identities who are all good friends and share a passion for making great wine. All Heartland wines are made with fruit from mature vineyards in the Limestone Coast and Langhorne Creek in South Australia. There are three ranges under the Heartland Wines label; Heartland, Stickleback, and the flagship Directors' Cut Shiraz.

The Coast & Creek range of wines perfectly reflect Ben Glaetzer’s determination to make wines that display pure varietal and regional characters. These wines are made from fruit sourced from the largest, most mature vineyards owned by Heartland wines. The Limestone Coast shares many qualities with its famous neighbour, Coonawarra with fruit ripening slowly developing full fruit flavours to create vibrant, mouth filling wines of finesse and elegance; and Langhorne Creek – situated east of Adelaide, on the Fleurieu Peninsula . It is one of South Australia’s oldest wine regions and as a result of the cool dry nights and warm days produces wines with richness and purity with fine tannins and opulent mouth feel.

TASTING NOTES

The 2009 Directors' Cut Shiraz is a deep ruby in colour, with splashes of violet. The nose displays beautifully articulated dark fruits, cherries and cassis with hints of spice box and anise. Seductively rich on the palate, flavours of dark chocolate and plums integrate with supple, focused tannin and and impressive length. European in style, with savoury characters, and wonderful mouth-feel.

REVIEWS

Deeper colour than the standard wine; savoury pepper and spice nuances are sprinkled on the core of blackberry and plum fruit that drives the wine; quality oak and tannins come in second — but an important second. Screwcap. 14.5% alc.
