Rosé Wine > Hahndorf Hill Winery Lemberger & Trollinger Rose 2008
|
NOTES
Hahndorf Hill Winery is a micro-boutique producer specialising in Sauvignon Blanc and Shiraz, as well as a unique Rose and all wines are specifically crafted to provide a sensational experience with food.
Located outside historic Hahndorf village in the lush Adelaide Hills of South Australia the vineyard prides itself in maintaining a fresh vibrancy to the wines is due to their environmentally friendly way and of keeping their yields low to ensure pure, concentrated flavours. Their vines are rooted in a loamy mix of slate and ironstone benefiting from meticulous canopy management and yield control regimen. All the grapes are handpicked, plus irrigated as little as possible, to ensure that those carefully nurtured flavours remain locked into the berry before processing and producing the award winning Hahndorf Hill wines rated 5 stars in the 2009 James Halliday Wine Companion.
TASTING NOTES
Totally different, totally unique! This sophisticated, dry Rosé is made from a blend of Trollinger and Lemberger grapes. Trollinger is widely grown in southern Germany, and Lemberger is very popular there too as well as in Austria, where it is known as Blaufränkisch and rates as that country's top red grape. Hahndorf Hill Winery is the only grower and producer of these varieties in Australia. The hand-picked grapes were crushed and given minimal skin contact in order to produce the sensational light salmon colour, and then the juice was fermented dry like a white wine.
With its aromatic nose and palate of freshly-crushed raspberries, quinces and cider-apples, this is the perfect wine for all seafood - sushi, oysters or pan-seared tuna fillets. Also especially magical with chilli-based cuisine. Try it with dark chocolate too.
