NOTES
Named after the proprietor of the 19th century mail coach service which once ran through their property, Henry’s Drive Vignerons is the wine operation established by Kim Longbottom and her late husband Mark who sadly passed away in 2008. Today, Kim is continuing to build the family tradition of fine winemaking with brands such as Henry’s Drive, Parson’s Flat among others. These wines are testament to Kim and Mark’s dedication to crafting fine wines from Padthaway, one of Australia’s great wine growing regions.
TASTING NOTES
With dark inky colour and bright purple edges, the 2008 Pillar Box Reserve is a rich and densely concentrated wine. Intense blackcurrant aromas combine with toasted spice and graphite minerality to give a complex and
lifted bouquet. The palate is fleshy at the start; showing ripe plum and blackcurrant fruits, then building in the mid palate with graphite, cedar toast and garam masala spice characters. The tannins are fine and velvety, leading into a refined and gratifying finish.
OTHER REVIEWS
Good colour; rich blackberry, prune and dark chocolate aromas are repeated on the palate; shiraz is Padthaway's trump card. Doesn't show dead fruit. Screwcap.15% alc. Rating 91 Drink 2017 James Halliday, Australian Wine Companion 2009
Opaque purple coloured, it offers up a classy bouquet of smoke, vanilla, saddle leather, bacon and blueberry. This leads to a full-bodied, plush, seamless wine with no hard edges to its lengthy finish. It has the stuffing to evolve for 2-3 years but i can think of no reason for delaying gratification. It is great value. – 92 Points Robert Parker, The Wine Advocate #173
