Leconfield Merlot 2008

NOTES

Leconfield Wines own 44ha of vineyards in Coonawarra and 66ha in McLaren Vale. In December 2001, Paul Gordon left Rouge Homme to join the Leconfield team as Senior Winemaker. With over twenty-three years' winemaking experience and an enviable reputation Paul has a long list of achievements, including the 1994 Jimmy Watson Trophy.

TASTING NOTES

Medium to full red with youthful vibrancy, the nose of this wine shows balanced oak contributing cinnamon and nutmeg, overlaying the ripe blood-plum fruit of Merlot. Medium bodied with silky smooth textured and long tannins. Excellent persistence and soft acidity, full flavoured poultry, such as twice-cooked duckling and modern Asian style cuisine.  Whilst being crafted to allow for sufficient elegance and softness to make it appeal in its youth, the structure to reward 6-8 years of cellaring.

REVIEWS

Still very pale in colour a year after bottling; early picking of flavour-ripe fruit has resulted in an elegant and tight wine with white peach and citrus flavours, French oak in the background. Screwcap. 13% alc. Rating 93 Drink 2018 James Halliday, Australian Wine Companion 2011
