NOTES
The grapes for the 2004 Amery Shiraz were selected from our McLaren Vale Amery Shiraz vineyards planted exclusively with cuttings from the 1892 Block 6 Shiraz vines. Harvesting took place on the 5th March 2004 and after traditional open fermentation and basket pressing the wine was placed in American oak barriques and hogsheads to develop and complex over the next 23 months.
TASTING NOTES
The colour, a dark ruby with purple highlights, evolves into a bouquet of ripe plums and blackberry surrounded by cloves and vanillin oak with chocolate and briar notes together with hints of menthol, black pepper and spices. The palate displays a complex array of plum and dark berry fruit, complemented by an assortment of spices. The rich silken fruit, soft layered persistent tannins, balanced acidity and subtle vanillin oak influence give a full bodied, satisfying Shiraz with excellent fruit expression and palate length. This Shiraz can be enjoyed now or cellared in temperature controlled conditions for 5 years plus. 14% alc/vol.
OTHER NOTES
Produced from 34 year old vines, the dense ruby/purple-tinged 2004 Amery Shiraz offers up dusty, loamy earth, black fruit, spicy oak and roasted meat and herb-like aromas. This beautiful value-priced Shiraz should evolve for a decade. Drink 2006-2016
Robert Parker's The Wine Advocate Issue 167 October 2006 - 90 Points
Bright red purple. Aromas of plum/blackberry/mulberry, licorice, mint, earth and spicy vanilla oak. Touch of VA lift and some floral fortified characters too. On the palate a full bodied wine although not at all heavy. Flavours of blackberry, mulberry, plum, dark chocolate and leather. A beautiful spread of fine ripe tannins and good fresh acidity. Distinctly dry and savoury. Long dry finish. Outstanding traditional Shiraz.
