Red Wine > Merlot & Blends > Hanging Rock ’Gralaine’ Geelong Merlot 2002
GRALAINE MERLOT 2002
Gralaine Merlot comes from the vineyard owned by Graeme and Elaine Carroll at Mount Duneed near Geelong. The Carrolls' fastidious approach to their vineyard's trellising, disease controls, pruning levels, irrigation and all the little things that go into hand grooming a vineyard, results each year in healthy, fully ripe fruit ready to be turned into wine that is easy for the winemaker to get into balance.
The wine comprises 100 per cent Merlot. Gralaine's fruit ripeness comes through not as 'jaminess', but as an opulent red, rich in varietal plum-like character and touched only subtly by oak since no completely new oak is used in the making.
Winemaker, John Ellis.
