Peter Lehmann Riesling 2007

NOTES

Riesling was first planted in the shallow, rocky soils of the Eden Valley, high in the Barossa ranges, in the early 1850’s. Time has revealed this place to be a natural home for Riesling which, to quote Peter Lehmann, is ‘the noblest white wine variety’. Eden Valley Rieslings have the unique distinction of being awarded the trophy for the Best Riesling in the World at the International Wine and Spirit Competition in London 5 times – more than any winemaker in the world.

As young wines they show lovely floral aromatics and fresh, tangy crispness. Zesty, clean and refreshing wines that showcase the wonderful crisp mineral acidity typical of the finest Eden Valley Rieslings. As they mature, these flavours soften and honey with age. Peter Lehmann believe Eden Valley Riesling to be one of Australia's most distinctive wine styles.

TASTING NOTES

Delicate green tints. Very aromatic bouquet of apple blossom and lemon flower. Tight structure, delicate fruit at this early stage of its life, with promise of deeper honeyed citrus notes to come after some time in the bottle. A zesty, stylish Eden Valley Riesling.

OTHER NOTES

Aromas of citrus, lime leaf, flowers and some youthful estery tropical fruit. On the palate fine and dry with crunchy green apple, citrus and floral flavours. Quite delicate with talc and mineral texture and fresh soft lemony acidity. Finishes dry and flinty with excellent length. A lovely pure riesling of gentle charm. Top value as well. - 92 Points, Gary Walsh, Winorama, August 13, 2007
