Rare & Fine Wine > Kaesler ’The Bogan’ Barossa Valley Shiraz 2005 - TEMPORARILY OUT OF STOCK
|
NOTES:
A major proportion of the fruit to make this wine, comes from the vineyard near Marananga, approximately 10 kms south west of the winery where a block of Shiraz planted in 1899 is located. Fruit is also sourced from Shiraz planted in 1976 giving this wine a real interesting dimension.
The 2005 Bogan is a cracker - dense purple with a vibrant edge, the nose displays baked plums, blueberry and cola. The oak (80% new American, wirh a medium to heavy toast with the balance in 1 to 2 year old Fench) shows quite spicy with a bit of mocha and chocolate on the back palate. Quite accessible as a young wine. It is full bodied and powerful with an abundance of blackberries and cassis on the palate. Structure is plump with a good length of aftertaste.
The Bogan is designed to highlight the unmistakeable synergy between Barossa Shiraz and good quality American oak. This is very much the new Australian style.
OTHER REVIEWS:
Aged in new and one-year-old American oak, and made in a completely different style, the 2005 Shiraz The Bogan (from 25- to 105-year-old vines) is a dense purple-colored effort displaying an exuberant nose of toast, blackberries, cassis, cherries, and damp earth. It is full-bodied and powerful with fabulous purity and texture as well as a blockbuster finish. This is a classic example of Barossa Shiraz at its finest. Enjoy it over the next 12-15 years. 96 points Robert Parker – The Wine Advocate
