NOTES
In their 113th year, a small quantity of superb Shiraz grapes were handpicked (on the 11th March 2005) from the 4 acre block 6 vineyard which continued the tradition of producing their flagship wine since 1897.
Traditionally process at the heritage Amery winery with open fermentation and basket pressing, the wine was matured in 80% new American oak and 20% Eastern European oak for 28 months.
TASTING NOTES
The colour, a deep red purple bordering on black, leads to a nose of intense, rich, savoury fruit with black pepper, blackberry, mocha, cinnamon and a hint of eucalypt.
On the palate, what an outstanding example of Block 6 Shiraz this is! It will delight the senses with delicious fruit driven flavours that are both rich, full and mouth filling. Intensely fruit driven with excellent length and depth and layer upon layer of complex, lip smacking flavours including sweet spices, dark mocha chocolate, briar and bramble berries. Seamless, well integrated American and Eastern European oak in the background with fine soft chewy tannins leading to a lingering and satisfying after taste.
A wine in complete harmony that will benefit from at least 7-8 years bottle maturation and with good cellaring will live for many more years!
OTHER NOTES
Remarkably, a barrel sample of the 2005 Shiraz Block 6 performed even better. It may be the best Block 6 Shiraz I have ever tasted. With drop dead purity, richness, intensity, presence, and personality, it should drink well for 20-25 years. I can hardly wait for its release next year.
