Monteith’s has been crafting its family of fine beers for nigh on 150 years, staying true to the authentic process and recipes of the classic beer styles we re-create. Renowned the world over, Monteith’s continues to produce beers that are made to exacting standards and capture the spirit of the world’s most famous beers and, in some cases, forgotten favourites that are all but forgotten.
The uniqueness of the beers we make is largely due to the combination of brewing process, ingredients and the approach of our brewers. All Monteith’s beers are batch brewed and slavishly adhere to the quirks and characteristics of original styles (with a little bit of ingenuity added for good measure).
MONTEITH’S BLACK BEER TASTING NOTES
MONTEITH’S CRISP & SMOOTH BLACK BEER is crisper than sweet darks and smoother than harsh stouts. It’s a beer that is crafted from a blend of five premium malts to create a complex depth of flavours with coffee notes dominant.
By today’s standards, Monteith’s Black Beer is distinctive, with higher alcohol content than ‘mainstream’ beers and a crisp dark maltiness. This complex malty characteristic shines through from the use of five different premium malts. With biscuit, nutty, caramel, chocolate and coffee malt characteristics, it’s a special taste in beers that is truly akin to the rich black beers historically produced on the West Coast of New Zealand.
