NOTES
Scorpo Vineyard & Wines is owned and operated by the Scorpo family. Twenty-five years as a horticulturist and landscape architect have given Paul Scorpo a unique perspective on the design documentation and construction management for an extensive range of projects. These include international golf courses, streetscapes, educational institutions, public parks and private gardens that may be found around Australia, Europe and South East Asia.
Paul’s Italian heritage along with wife Caroline’s shared passions for food, wine and gardens has been passed down to their daughters Emma, Sarah and Claire. This enduring combination of pursuits around similar endeavours has inspired the family to work together on a project to create a truly unique vineyard on Victoria’s Mornington Peninsula.
Paul Scorpo's meticulously planted vineyard on the Peninsula is producing some truly superb fruit, and with the help of Sandro Moselle at Kooyong winery the Scorpo wines have deservedly received some serious attention.
What’s in a name? Noirien was used as a nickname for Burgundies as far back as 1325 and is a combination of the French ‘noir’ (black) and ‘rien’ (nothing) and its use by Scorpo using their fabulous Mornington Peninsula fruit is cheeky indeed.
TASTING NOTES
This is a good, soft, juicy Pinot Noir with enough savoury elements to keep fan your interest and hold it. The nose oozes juicy red cherry and vanilla aromas with a rich, soft palate of cherry and forest floor fruits. Unbelievably good value for money this is an excellent Pinot.
OTHER REVIEWS
Noirien was used in Burgundy from 1325; this wine shows great crimson colour; rich plum and spice aromas and flavours towards the big end of town but not over the top; just a millemetre short; time needed. 93 Points, James Halliday – Australian Wine Companion 2009
