NOTES
AAA is a vibrant blend of approximately 75% Shiraz and 25% Grenache from some special little pockets amongst our vineyards. The Shiraz was selected from the ‘Gateway' and ‘Jones Block’ vineyards, renowned for producing some of the best fruit in the region. These select parcels were blended with complimentary Grenache to create a wine that is engaging to a wide range of drinkers. Our blend is fun, appealing and, unlike some members of Paxton, not over the top.
The 2006 vintage was characterised by good winter and spring rains with cool summer temperatures. Most notable was the prolonged cool spring and absence of extreme heat over the ripening period. These mild and stable conditions were conducive to fruit ripening and as a result harvest was, on average, two weeks earlier than normal.
TASTING NOTES
The colour is of a medium intensity ruby red with purple hues. The bouquet shows attractive complex aromatics of blackberries and lifted spicy red berry fragrance. Once on the tongue, the wine dances with a palate of spicy sweet berry fruits, flavour filled with silky tannins and a lingering savoury back palate. Smooth, even and balanced.
This wine can be enjoyed young but cellaring for up to 5-8 years will be rewarded. Alc 14%
OTHER REVIEWS
“Proponents of biodynamics claim that using the well-defined system of organic farming helps to bring the vines into balance, producing grapes that not only taste better, but also have flavours unique to that vineyard… the 2006 is full of life, spicy red and black fruit and fine, lingering tannin.”

“Aromas of cherry, fresh berries and chocolate with meat and mineral characters. It smells as much like Spanish wine as Australian and has a barely perceptible oak influence. On the palate medium bodied with lively raspberry and black cherry fruit and a rich choc licorice flavour. It has a most attractive mineral and earthy aspect too. There are smooth fine grained tannins contributing to a supple and generous mouthfeel and a persistent savoury choc-licorice aftertaste that makes you fancy another taste. It looks very young at
the moment so give it a good splash round if you drink it now. A big buy recommendation from me.”

“This is a young red with immediate appeal. The nose is fresh and gorgeous-blackberry with raspberry lift. The palate is supple, vibrant and delicious.” Excellent Value - Highly Recommended

“Good wine is all about good fruit and Paxton has some of the finest vineyards in McLaren Vale. Their commercial AAA release shows this fruit with its bright red berry and spice to best advantage. The Grenache adds a juicy element to the Shiraz without any overt bubble gum characters often shown by this variety. The palate is rich and softly fruit but with good tannin backbone. For all that I think this will show its best over the next few years ... a lovely mouthful of ripe red, right now.”
