NOTES
2008 - Winery of the Year - James Halliday 2007 - Wine of the Year - Jeremy Oliver 2006 - Qantas/Gourmet Traveller Winemaker of the Year
Balnaves of Coonawarra Cabernet Sauvignon has also been selected on five occasions at the Coonawarra Barrel Series. "A great bargain and a genuine standby in case you can’t get The Tally from the same vintage!" -Jeremy Oliver
TASTING NOTES
Deep red in colour, the nose is dark and deep with aromas of black fruits, mineral, liquorice and integrated vanillin French oak. The palate is sweet and richly flavoured with complex characters of mineral and leather as well as cassis and dark chocolate. Beautifully balanced and rich, amazing texture and cool flavours, harmonious and velvety, with a long textured tannin finish.
OTHER REVIEWS
"Has great poise; essency cassis, with hints of earth and a mineral complexity at its core; full bodied, with fine grained tannins; will reward patient cellaring - 94 Points, James Halliday, Australian Wine Companion 2009
"Balnaves isn't the most widely distributed label but the wines are some of the regions best. This Cabernet has excellent balance of savoury and ripe characters with essence of blackcurrent fruit, hints of herbs and menthol. Oak is restrained and the pallet is tightly structured and developing well, finishing long and fine. 4 stars!" -Ralph Kyte Powell.
"Searingly intense, long and seamless, this superbly structured and balanced cabernet marries piercing berry, cherry and plum-like fruit with cedar/chocolate oak and a firm, drying spine of chalky tannin. Scented with slightly minty nuances of violets and dried herbs, it’s ripe, lavish and savoury, without a hint of over-ripeness!" -Jeremy Oliver
