Margan Botrytis Semillon 2006 - 2 BOTTLES AVAILABLE

NOTES

The Margan brand’s first vintage was 1997. A state of the art winery was completed on the Margan “Ceres Hill” property in time for the 1998 vintage. The winery has been built to handle up to 1000 tonnes of fruit using only the best equipment available to make wines of outstanding varietal definition. The wines are carefully hand-crafted under the winemaking skills of Andrew Margan. With over 25 vintages of experience both in Australia (specifically Tyrrell’s Wines), and in Europe, Andrew Margan combines his understanding of vineyard management with his winemaking expertise to craft wines of individual character and finesse.

"Hunter Valley boutique winery Margan Family is the giant-killer at the Royal Sydney Wine Show for the second year. As it did last year, Margan won the Leo Buring Perpetual Trophy against all the biggest wineries. It also won the Restaurant & Catering Industry Trophy for the best table wine exhibited by a small producer (500 tonne crush limit) with its 2000 Botrytis Semillon. The Leo Buring goes to the exhibitor with the highest points in premium classes... for vintage 2000... Margan’s successes in those classes were the Botrytis Semillon (gold), Merlot (silver), two Chardonnays and a Semillon (all bronzes)..."

- Huon Hooke, The Sydney Morning Herald, February 2001

TASTING NOTES

Light golden green in colour the wine has quince and pineapple characters with citrus overtones. The palate is rich and luscious without being cloying with delicious nuts and dried fruit flavours coupled with distinctive Hunter Valley citrus. The wine finishes long and clean with fresh citrus acidity which saves it from being cloying.   It works well with desserts (as opposed to being too sweet) and provides a perfect contrast when matched with cheese or pate.
