Amisfield Sauvignon Blanc 2007

NOTES

Amisfield is a specialist producer of fine wines made with grapes sourced from the Amisfield estate vineyard in Lowburn, Central Otago New Zealand. Amisfield is pioneering the way for sustainable winegrowing in New Zealand. The 60 hectare vineyard , located near the shores of Lake Dunstan in Central Otago , has followed environmentally friendly practices since the first vines were planted in 1999.

'Grown Not Made' is the underlying philosophy of Amisfield. Whether it's the pristine grapes grown to exacting standards by our viticulture team, the world-class wines issuing from our estate winery or the superlative food served at our Bistro at Lake Hayes, Amisfield are now regarded as one of the leading producers of Central Otago.

TASTING NOTES

Made to drink young Amisfield Sauvignon Blanc embraces the best in old and new world winemaking. A wine of subtle power, complexity and destined to become a modern classic.  Elderflower, gooseberry and cassis dominate the aromas touched by a faint whiff of gunflint from barrel fermentation. The palate is full bodied and dry with great intensity of fruit balanced by refreshing acidity.  This is a serious Sauvignon that is ideally suited to fresh seafood or with artisan cheeses such as chevre.

OTHER REVIEWS

Bold scents of kiwi and cut grass meet equally powerful acidity in this intense sauvignon. Earthy smoke lingers in the finish, and extends as the wine takes on air. This is a rich white that needs bottle time to mellow. 90 points, Year's Best Sauvignon Blanc Wine & Spirits, June 2008

The classy 2007 vintage (4.5 stars) made from first-crop vines, estate-grown at Lowburn shows just how ripe-tasting Central Otago Sauvignon Blanc can be. Hand-picked at 21-24 brix, it was mostly handled in tanks, but 10 per cent of the blend was fermented with indigenous yeasts in old French oak barriques. Pale and mouthfilling, it has sweet-fruit flavours of melon, passionfruit and lime, fresh and rich, in a very refined style with excellent complexity, delicacy and length. Best drinking mid 2008 onwards.  Michael Cooper's Buyer's Guide to NZ Wines 2008

"A very distinctive and subtle sauvignon much more in French style, superbly dry finish. Total flavour is scarcely varietal, yet well-fruited and fresher than chardonnay, supremely elegant and lovely drinking!" -Geoff Kelly's
