NOTES
Rimu Grove Winery was founded in 1995 on the Bronte Peninsula near the town of Nelson. In the early 1900's a city plan was drawn up for Bronte but the city was never built. Instead the Bronte area was planted in apple orchards and remained this way for years. The land is well suited for vineyards as well. Clay and gravel soils, similar to the surrounding Moutere Hills, coupled with a temperate climate, moderated by proximity to the sea, creates a classic growing region for fine wine grapes. Patrick and Barbara Stowe recognized this potential, and in 1995 began to remove the existing apple trees to plant the vineyard. The winery building was completed in early 2000 just in time for the inaugural Rimu Grove vintage. Rimu Grove Winery was founded by Patrick and Barbara Stowe in the rolling hills above the scenic Waimea Estuary. Their search for the ultimate expression of terroir is reflected in their wines: a synergy of Nelson sunshine, Moutere clay gravels, maritime microclimate and their pursuit for perfection.

OTHER REVIEWS
This is a gorgeously plump, fleshy wine and I adored its suppleness and fine tannin balance. Bourne also liked it, writing, 'Lovely sweet, sappy aromas. Yummy stuff! Delicate, sweet-fruit flavours, with raspberry and strawberry. Fine acidity and a lovely tail.' There's a hint of funk which adds further intrigue. The wine combines a full body with a graceful balance and, although quite ready, will continue to develop complexity for several years. - 94 points, 5 stars Gourmet Traveller Wine Magazine, August/September 2007
Estate-grown near Mapua, on the Nelson coast, this is a consistently characterful and concentrated wine... Ruby-hued, with highly scented rasberry and strawberry aromas, it is supple, with sweet-fruit flavours of plums, red berries and spice, good complexity and a well-rounded finish. Delicious now. 4.5 stars Michael Cooper's 2007 Buyer's Guide to NZ Wines.
