Claymore Wines Nirvana Shiraz 2004 (Clare Valley, SA) - SOLD OUT
|
NOTES
Claymore's vineyard is non-irrigated with low yields averaging 1.5 to 2 tonnes per acre, keeping production at this boutique winery to a few modest thousand cases annually. Grapes are sourced from vineyards in the Watervale and Penwortham region, with a bit of additional fruit grown by premium vignerons in other parts of the Clare Valley. Treated to eighteen months maturation in a combination of French and American oak barrels.
TASTING NOTES
Rich, deep crimson red in colour. The nose shows lifted chocolate, mulberries and sweetish (almost vanillin) oak spice. There is also a slight menthol and forest lift - reminiscent of walking under pine trees after rain. Big, chewy and juicy black fruits dominate the palate with lots of dark chocolate. The tannins are firm yet integrated and the wine finishes with lingering gentle black berry fruits. An incredibly rich and generous wine, silky smooth, the pepper, fruit and spice augmenting the concentrated flavours.
REVIEWS
Some sweet and sour characters; ripe fruit on entry, then a tangy, almost citrussy, finish; has length. Cork.14.0% alc 89 points James Halliday, Australian Wine Companion 2009
