Harewood Estate Sauvignon Blanc Semillon 2008

NOTES

Harewood Estate is a relatively new small producer that we're proud to get behind.  The owner is James Kellie, he worked as the Denmark winemaker for Howard Park for 5 vintages.  During this time, Howard Park’s primary chardonnay fruit source was Harewood and when the vineyard just happen to came up for sale, James quickly purchased it in time for the 2004 vintage.

James built a winery and increased the range of wines, all of which are doing exceptionally well on the show circuit.  Accordingly the reviews of every wine under this label, it is nothing short of outstanding.

The Harewood Estate Vineyard has been described as a "Showpiece Vineyard" by James Halliday and Dr Richard Smart has described Harewood as “the perfect example of a cool climate vineyard.”  As further affirmation, the fruit has been sold to Leeuwin Estate, Howard Park and Domain Chandon.

“Harewood will be one of the emerging stars to watch in the future.” Ray Jordan, The West Australian 2003

TASTING NOTES

The fruit for this wine was sourced from higher altitude vineyards in the cool climate coastal sub-regions of Denmark.  Only the finest, more pristine, “free-run” juice was used in the production of this wine resulting in a wine of outstanding elegance, free from harsh, phenolic character. A portion of each variety was barrel fermented in larger French oak puncheons, introducing a textural complexity top the mid palate. Minimal fining and the use of screw caps are all further steps towards capturing the inherent delicacy of this cool climate blend.

A brilliant, pale colour with youthful green tinges.  An intense nose combining the lemon zest and snow pea of Semillon with the gooseberry and herbaceous aromas of cool climate Sauvignon blanc.   The intensity of the nose is reflected in the seamless purity of the palate.  Mouth-watering citrus fruits are balanced by hints of more tropical passionfruit leading to a long and lingering finish of crisp grapefruit acidity.
