THE BRESS STORY
Whilst living and winemaking in the Yarra Valley, Adam Markes discovered the joys of breeding and showing chickens. This passion led him to visit France in 1996 to witness first hand their traditional methods of breeding chickens and now dedicates his wines, ciders and produce to the famous chickens of France and what they represent artisan production using traditional, age old methods. Visit the property and we can show you our white leghorn chickens, which are very similar to the chickens bred in the Bresse region of France.
Bress is a beautiful and idyllic 66-acre, (20 hectare) property that is farmed biodynamically. Adam Markes has employed biodynamic farming practices at the Harcourt property for two years and since then Bress has seen a marked improvement in all of their crops, whether they are grape vines, apple trees, vegetables or our gardens.
